Determination of Human Calcitonin (hCT) by a Novel ELISA Kit |

We developed and validated a new enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit for the measurement of human calcitonin (hCT) concentrations in serum and plasma. This sandwich ELISA is accurate, sensitive, specific, and precise. Linear regression analyses showed an excellent comparability with other commercial immunoassays (RIA, IRMA). The new ELISA kit is calibrated against the WHO 2nd International Standard for hCT and has signifÏcant advantages over other commercial immunoassay kits, e.g. high analytical sensitivity, wide measuring range, small volume of sample, no radioactivity, applicable to normal laboratory equipment, useful for larger series of samples in connection with an ELISA working station. The calcitonin ELISA kit can be used for the screening and follow-up of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) and may also be helpful in basic research studies. |
