Abstract

A Case Report of Severe Aplastic Anemia Complicated by Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis by Yingying Sun, Chengcheng Wu, Chunyan Liu, Zonghong Shao

Background: Severe aplastic anemia (SAA) complicated by papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is rare. Determining the appropriate treatment options poses a significant challenge.
Methods: We reported a case of a 26-year-old SAA patient complicated by PTC and HT. He underwent a total thyroidectomy and dissection of lymph nodes under supportive care first. Four weeks after the surgery, he received immunosuppressive therapy (IST).
Results: Nine months after IST, the patient achieved remission of SAA.
Conclusions: It is a viable option for SAA patients complicated by thyroid disorders to first undergo surgery with adequate supportive care, followed by IST.
